Fiber Roving February 2019~~~~ It has been an interesting winter beginning with a wet and rainy Oct and Nov, then a wet snow that reminded me of midwestern winters, and then snow, snow and more snow. I love the white stuff, it is so refreshing after the dark, wet days of Oct/Nov. But the drastic changes have been hard on the critters. The woods are beautiful, the trees dressed in white, even the birch are holding handfuls of snow within their bare branches. This is still the quiet look inward time of winter. It is a time when many crafters are busy with whatever art form they peruse. Please remember that our community fair is coming up in August. This fair is ours, our community coming together, sharing what we have created, and socializing with each other. Last year the exhibit hall was pathetically empty. There were some stunningly beautiful things there, but the number of items present was very lean. The challenge to everyone, submit your efforts to the Fair! Let us share with each other all the great, creative efforts that are going on, on the Peninsula. Whatever art form you use, from fiber, quilts, wood, or pottery, share by exhibiting. Let us use the Fair to show who we are as artists. Encourage friends and neighbors and let the Fair be a showcase for who we are as residents of the Peninsula. The Fuzzy Wuzzy 4H Fiber Club (the original members picked the name) needs more members. The club has been going on for over 15 years with different leaders. Many members of the current group graduated from HS this year, and the current leader is willing to continue the group, and needs more members. She requested they be around 10, so they would have the coordination and strength to do the activities. Kristen can be reached at 394-2364 or 776-5476. Our current Board of Directors with new members; MaryAnn Dyke, Monti Hightower, Linda Albers, Lisa Lambert, Karen Porter, Kathy Morey, and Carol Sinenko. Officers are; Carol & Linda, co-presidents, Monti, treasurer, Kathy, secretary. They met quarterly, except for special committee meetings. The next quarterly meeting is April 20th, at 10:00am at the library, and is open to all members to attend. Our next meeting is coming up fast! With Feb beginning as it did, our third Saturday of the month is the 16th of the month. We will be at the Soldotna Library in the community room. Our start time will be at 11:00 am??? usual place and time ???? For your information; if you raise large livestock, you may know that Jerry N. health has been fragile for awhile. There is a group working in the area to bring in another large animal vet. There is some interest, nothing completely firm yet, but some promising direction on this. Jerry has done a wonderful job for us with his portable clinic, but his health has really been working against him. Some years ago, I had the pleasure to get to know Kathy Morey, she is now on the BOD. She has been that quiet influence in the background designing our web page and face book, and more importantly keeping them both updated and current. A huge THANK YOU to Kathy for all the work she has done and continues to do to keep us together as a Guild. Lee ???? PS both my Great Pyrenees are outside howling!? Interesting??????.
